let’s just pretend this is a rilly cool title ok?

I’m tired, gimme a break :)

dad’s heart despazzified itself at stupid o’clock Friday morning when he was woken by his back going “out” courtesy of dodgy hospital beds & too long in bed anyway. Home & quite happy the next evening, although he did discover a couple of oopers we’d made when installing the DSL sis gave him for an early birthday present. Mind you, this is dad, so something entertaining to tease me about for the next few weeks and a network printer issue that took us all night (and I do mean ALL night) last night to fix is a kind of double bonus.

p3250015.JPGOther than ballsing up something on one of dad’s boxes, I’ve had a pretty good weekend. I ordered a buttload of fabric for painting & dyeing on Friday, and got some stuff sorted out about classes & away workshops, made some progress on the TOTGA piece (no new photos yet), got the wireless networking up & running on the BIL’s “spare” mac (one of those funny-looking sci-fi/spaceagey ones with the flatscreen) so mum can play online while my daughter watches DVDs on mum’s emac. That warrants a damn medal I tellya, macs are WEIRD and do things all funny. Note pic of daughter “watching Cars on nana’s ‘mote tomputah” at left …

Um, also helped dad figure out some other weird networky stuff, and scored a bookcase for $10 and a 3-tiered wire rack for free, and Saturday’s class was pretty enjoyable & included a pizza lunch. Oh, AND I stumbled upon the missing poesy, so I can waver between squirming and liking the gooshy stuff I used to write about TOTGA.

ANYWAY. Pics from Saturday:

noreen - stitching started Noreen … stitching started down in the mud. Tree at side removed to do so, and I rather like the composition this way.

virginia Virginia … we spent most of the day working on her background. She’d done quite a bit of homework making leaves and flowers and so on. She’s got to make a branch for the kookaburra to sit on and a few more morning glory leaves and I reckon she’ll be ready to do a bit of colouring & start stitching.

the rhythm of life

my dad’s back in the horsetipple with a wonky heart rhythm again. We’re going to go stay with mum a few days, so I probably won’t be around much til midweek. Dopey twit waited for mum to get home from shopping, because he didn’t want her to panic if he rang to say he needed to go to hospital … mum’s like so, how panicked do you think I’d have been if I came home to find you …[superstitiously unspoken]???

heh he’s just rung me to say a friend’s mother is dropping some books to my place to take in to him please because he’s bored out of his skull. Can’t be that crook, eh?

In any case, her highness & I will go stay with ma for a few days after we go see dad, so no more from me til next week sometime. These’ll have to hold you over for a bit:

Virginia did a monitor for homework:

& we were playing with a frillneck today:

and last but by no means least, Noreen’s mangrove swamp:

fabric search

one of my students found some fabric she wants in an old DUQ yearbook, so I’m just bunging this pic up so I can ask the supplier (Logan’s Fabrics) if they still have any.

Logan’s Fabrics ad DUQ yearbook 2003 I added the numbers – we’re after fabrics #5, #6, and #8.

I’m still wanting some of that Sampou fabric with stars & wavy bits too, if anyone can help with that …

spam titling

Most of the spam I get is whisked out of sight by Thunderbird, but an occasional gem gets through. I quite often think they’d make a great starting point or title for a quilt (or painting or print, whatever). I’m still partial to Verde Cayman Central - I got an immediate image of a congregation of busy, brilliant green crocs (yes I know it’s spelled caiman, but I read out loud in my head so am often struck by homophones & homonyms and so on). A couple of weeks ago I got email titled married nymph Thetis Olympians – from God, no less!

Today’s offerings include ephemerides wondered and heraclitus deformation. Phrases like that make me very happy …

I originally said something much more flowery and poetic, but WordPress is being some kind of prima donna. It doesn’t like “curl” up … ok that’s just bizarre. BIZARRE. It doesn’t like *CURL* for pete’s sake. CURL! CURL! CURL! If I use that word without quotes or exclamations or something, WordPress barfs. Hardcore. It tells me – I kid you not – that I’m trying to do something unacceptable.

notecards & the big house

Finally got my new lot of notecards organised. I guess I should stick a paypal button up there too … I do have a merchant account for cc transactions, but some people are understandably nervy when not going through a 3rd party. It’s easy in oz; direct deposits are de rigeur – why banks are still getting away with charging umptybazillion quid to do an international transfer is beyond me. We’re talking something like $20 each end, quite often, AND a delay so they can play silly buggers on the short-term markets, and for mine it’s all inexcusable given the current level of connectivity. BUT ANYWAY, I won’t get started on my banks are cheeky bastages rant :)

Haven’t done much the last few days. Week, really, I guess. I’ve been flat out dragging myself out of bed long enough to take her highness to preschool. I realised today that I’d stopped taking my iron supplements sometime recently, so that might go towards explaining the relapse into the glandular-fever-blahs. It’s VERY ANNOYING.

speaking of her highness, her dollhouse arrived the other day. It’s BIG. I knew it was, but wow. I unpacked & temp-assembled just the conservatory, and good heavens. I need to pull the main house out & check it for damage before I leave feedback, but it looks like it’s probably okay. I am definitely going to need to rearrange her area to accommodate it though lol. Check it out:

she’s spotted the pics a few times while I was comparison shopping, and every time goes “I NIKE that dollhouse!” so I think she’ll be fully stoked come her birthday …

totga 3

totga manifest

I’ve just been looking for the verse this illustrates. No luck, which is frustrating … if it’s not with the rest of that stuff, where in hell will it be?? oh … hmm. I just remembered, I had it out separate for some reason … like, two years ago, argh. Oh well, it’ll turn up.

This was written around the same time, and there are a few phrases I like:

he brings me music
and gifts of skin
he peeps through doors
I thought were barred
he comes to find me
before I leave
and leaves a fragrant stain of hope
to bring me home again

Anyway. So I’ve been playing in Corel to help figure out layout etc. I’m kind of liking it, but it’s being annoyingly ungrounded when much of his appeal was that he was so very flesh-&-bone.

digital design wall

The pillars etc have to be illusory; that’s all my fantasy. The hair etc has a little more realness/solidity because that was as much his self-image as my besotted rhapsodising. I was thinking about scales and mermannish fripperies, but I think not. I’m not even sure why he’s IN the water. I wish I could find some more of the fabric I used for the hair, a wavy starry print from Jennifer Sampou (sp?) – it was one 20c remnant of black from the Salvos and one even smaller scrap of the same in purple that I begged off Jill, bulked out by a hand-dye in Cadbury purple and (sparingly!) some fairly wild pink/purple wavy stuff.

—-EDIT—-
once upon a fairy
I found this (I have some of this one in pink, actually) – the purple & black I’ve used here have the same background texture, but the stars are white. I gather it was from a couple of years earlier than this one … anyone got some in their stash they’d be willing to sell/swap?

What Kind of Intelligence Do You Have?

Your Dominant Intelligence is Spatial Intelligence

You’ve got a good sense of space and how the world around you looks.
You can close your eyes and “see” images. You have innate artistic talent.
An eye for color and shapes, you’re also a natural designer.
Since you think in pictures, visual aids and demonstartions help you learn best.

You would make a good navigator, sculptor, visual artist, inventor, architect, interior designer, or engineer.

(it’s Cadbury purple, not that odd colour, and his horn doesn’t have leprosy either. It’ll probably stop schizing out my camera once he has a background)

sketch, & a face ready to colour … don’t ask me what I’m doing yet, I’m still trying to get those dream ciphers to translate into something real.
