more crafting

the pook & I have been playing around making felt cookies (and one trial of a fruit mince pie):

She’s right into them, and they seem to intrigue other people too, so I’m planning on producing as many as possible during tv-time to flog at the pre-xmas markets. Thought I’d try some vaguely christmassy sunhats too, so here’s the first prototype, awaiting its band/bow/whatever (and a good going over with the steam thinger):

There are a few things I’d change, but I kinda like it.

I forgot to post the other dress I made her highness the other day.

apologies for the continued absences, it’s been a discombobulated few months. And it’ll be xmas soon! More madness! Barring plagues of fleas & rattlesnakes the whole mob is coming here, and several are staying. Including the girlchild’s father, who broke about 6 months’ silence to ask if it would be ok if he stayed for 3 weeks (I said it depends how big a pain in the arse he’s planning to be). She’ll be stoked, except for when he tries to make her do storybook daughter stuff and she wants to do obnoxious brat real girl stuff. I’ll just go quietly insane at having TWO never-shuts-up humans in the house, both of whom have big stompyfeet whinypants tantrums when they don’t get their way. Fun! At least the family is doing a semi-proper xmas thing with the presents this year. I hate secret santa. Well, not hate exactly, it’s just boring. I like lots of presents under the tree, largely because I LOVE wrapping gifts, and I dig the whole thing of people spending a little time to try & find something you’ll enjoy, and I love everybody taking turns opening all their gifts over coffee/tea and various treats that shouldn’t really be breakfast. Secret santa + wishlist seems to take all the fun out of it, and there were some major snafus last year that made things very unpleasant and unchristmassy. Frankly I don’t like the set budget thing either, but the majority want rules so whutevah – I’m sweet so long as I get to wrap!

boof&stays This is my beautiful baby boy and his beautiful fiance, who are [drumroll please] in the midst of growing another wee beastie to wrap gifts for … I’m gonna be a granny! How legend is that?

Here’s the first dress from all that fabric in the previous post, modelled by the beauteous elfinor (dirty feet & all):

There are two more under way (three I guess actually, if you count the shirred top I rejected for the above dress & will use for another). Relearning things I’d forgotten about clothes sewing. Enjoying it. Becoming monosyllabic; to bed go I must.

I’m baaaack …

well sort of. I did finally get DSL on (with Netspace, who after telling me it would take 5-10 days had it live within a few hours of my Friday-afternoon order! I’m still boggling), but I’ve been a bit busy since. Not a lot to show for it, unfortunately, unless a messy house & a sore back counts.

The Zonta show turned out to be pretty much a bust, which bites. Lot of time, effort, and money, and I’m pretty sure we didn’t even cover costs (in simple terms, maybe barely, but not if you count c.o.g.s). I don’t think anyone did well; there was a lot of grumbling going on and a lot of stallholders who won’t be returning next year. They need better signs, more advertising, and they probably need to rethink having an entry fee (I know I’m not particularly impressed at being charged to spend money. The standard “gold coin donation” would have been better, IMO). Mostly they need to either make, invest in, or con a donation of some decent signs.

At any rate, and I’m sure this is no surprise to anyone who knows me, I spent far more than I made (there were quite a few who said if not for other stallies they’d have done even worse). Mostly on fabric (I know, you’re totally shocked, right?). Spotlight had a bunch of stuff on clearance, so I loaded up there too, most of it on stuff that in theory will become dresses for the girl. Can’t remember if I mentioned a month or so ago buying some fabric for her, including some ladybug stuff for which I’ve since had trouble finding the coordinating black/red & white/red stripes/spots/gingham I wanted. Yippee for Spotlight sales heh.

Here they are, including the couple I bought last trip (in this pic, the green floral toward the right, the white floral & the white with funky spots-on-stripes):
flowers, spots and stripes in candy colours

this one, everything but the ladybirds on white and the ladybirds in grass is new:
ladybugs/ladybirds (aka nadybuds), spots and stripes

these were not on sale (altho Robin did give me a discount heh) and may end up in bags or a quilt. Depends.
candy spots & stripes

these are mine … crows just because they’re hilarious (wtf am I going to do with them? No clue), paisley because I dig paisley and it was $3pm, and the rest are contenders for the Indian monsoon/summer quilt
